Stronghold Tiracol, now and then known as Terekhol Fort, is situated on the northern tip of Goa at the mouth of the Tiracol
River. It is from the waterway that the fortress has got its name. The post was initially worked by Maharaja Khem Sawant
Bhonsle, the Raja of Sawantwadi, in the seventeenth century. It was later caught by the Portuguese in 1746.
